chapter 19

Jensen woke the following morning, just before daybreak. He lay there for a few seconds wondering just what it was that had pulled him from sleep a good hour earlier than he needed to be, when he felt the press of a mouth against his neck, before a tousled head appeared at his shoulder, hazel eyes alight. He turned and faced Jared, a smile breaking across his face as he watched Jared’s intense concentration as his hands roamed Jensen’s body now that he had him facing him. He stretched languidly watching from beneath lowered lashes as Jared’s eyes darkened,

“Are you responsible for waking me at this god forsaken hour?”

Jared had descended on Jensen’s body, his mouth now following the tracks his hands had left and he peeked up at Jensen, his chin resting on Jensen’s chest and grinned wide causing Jensen to catch his breath. God he was beautiful, the difference in Jared’s whole demeanour even since last night was astounding and he just wanted to continue to do the right things to bring this wonderful man out from the shell he had been hiding in.

“Guilty. I figured if you’re gonna be leaving me for a whole day, I should at least have this one hour to myself. Don’t mind me, go back to sleep, I can amuse myself here.”

He lowered his head once more and his mouth continued on its path to Jensen’s nipple, taking the dark nub between his teeth and nipping and sucking. Jensen gasped as Jared moved onto the other nipple to give it the same attention, his hand skimming down Jensen’s flat stomach to his navel. Jensen’s hands curled in Jared’s hair and he arched up against his mouth, his lip caught between his teeth and he felt the smile that curled Jared’s mouth before he raised his head and kissed Jensen thoroughly his tongue dipping and diving, giving Jensen a glimpse of the man that lay beneath the mask he presented to the world..

Jared moved across his cheek and nipped at his earlobe, his hand now wrapping around Jensen’s cock as Jensen clung to Jared and moved to claim Jared’s mouth again, Jared gasped into Jensen’s mouth as his hand worked Jensen’s cock rutting against Jensen’s thigh, “Jensen.....so damn beautiful.....I want you so much all the time...”

Jensen held Jared’s face in his hands and pulled him back and whispered against his lips, “You got me Jared , you got me.”

Jared leaned in and kissed him again before moving down, mouth engulfing Jensen’s cock in hot moist heat. Jared grinned against Jensen’s mouth as he leaned in for another kiss before hopping from the bed. “Play your cards right and we will see what we can do for you sir.” With a grin and a twist of bare hips and tantalising ass, he disappeared into the bathroom and Jensen heard the shower turn on minutes later. He couldn’t help the laugh that escaped him when the sounds of a song being sung very badly emerged from the bathroom and grinning wide he threw the covers back and seconds later was pulling the shower door back and stepping in. Wrapping his arms around Jared’s waist from behind, he softly kissed his shoulder before chuckling gently as Jared just turned his head smiled and continued to sing.

Smiling against Jared’s skin, Jensen slowly worked his way down Jared’s muscled back, his narrow waist, landing on his knees and turning Jared around, he proceeded to make Jared sing a totally different tune.

He left Jared an hour later, after having presented him with a cell phone he had picked up while away and made Jared promise to keep it with him. Jensen felt happier leaving knowing he could contact Jared at any time and know he was ok. Jared’s face seemed to be permanently split into a warm smile and he kissed Jensen’s neck and promised softly not to let an hour go by without texting him hello. Jensen had felt such a bubble of happiness rise in him as he had hugged Jared goodbye, mindful of his still sore ribs, reminded him his Mom would be arriving that afternoon and he would see him when he arrived back, although he expected to be late. He had secured a meeting with the people who had been so anxious to get this project done and while he was up there he was also going to meet with Jeff Morgan, so he had no idea how long it would take.

They shared one last kiss and a lingering touch that made Jensen feel like he stuck in a permanent soppy movie before he drove away, the image of Jared in his rear-view mirror staying with him long after he had disappeared from view.

It was coming up to lunchtime when Jensen was finally able to take a breath. Since leaving Jared at six am he had received four text messages from him, which had brought a huge smile to his face. He leaned back against the wall of the elevator as it took him to the ground floor and out into the open air and reread the last one he had received about an hour before, a soft secret smile playing on his lips as he read about Jared’s morning and his plans to head out for a run and how he missed Jensen already and to hurry home. Home. God, home...it was frightening to Jensen just how quickly he had fallen for Jared and how fast he was realising that Jared was home. He pushed away from the back of the elevator and made his way out into the early afternoon sun a smile still playing on his lips.

He had just come from a meeting with his clients and just like he had thought they had loved the plans, and final details were being ironed out and Jensen was just so fucking relieved to finally have this damn difficult project over and done. It was still too early for lunch, but he thought a cup of coffee would be just the ticket. Looking at his watch, he decided he had time to take a run to his apartment and maybe have a coffee and gather a few more things to take down home before his meeting with Jeff. He was still smiling when he pulled out into the traffic and hummed a tune to himself as he manoeuvred his way through the busy streets.

He was maybe a block away from his apartment, and stopped at a traffic light, his fingers drumming out the song playing on the radio when the passenger door of his car was pulled open and a man threw himself into the seat across from him, his eyes wild with panic.

“What the.....Get the fuck out of my car man!”

Cars behind him blew their horns when the lights went green and Jensen didn’t move, his body rigid with shock and fear at the sight of the dishevelled, bruised man now looking at him with eyes wild with obvious panic.

“Drive......”

Jensen ignored the command and moved to get out of the car, the man’s appearance and panicked expression had him worry for his safety. He could keep the goddamn car if he wanted it that badly; he just wanted to get home to Jared, alive. He wasn’t going to let some drugged out lunatic take everything from him, not now he had just found Jared. But as his hand reached for the door handle, the man’s hand reached across in a grip that was stronger than he would have thought and simply growled, “Don’t.....just drive.....now”

“Look, just keep the fucking car ok? You don’t need me....”

“Shut up! We don’t have time for this! God you’re not supposed to even be here! It isn’t safe.....Jesus, please drive the fucking car, we have to get to Jared......if he gets there first....god please please please don’t let him get there first!”

Jensen went into automatic as his mind clicked who this person had to be and ignoring the blaring horns and frustrated shouts of the other drivers, peeled off into the L.A. traffic, his eyes darting across to the man beside him.

“Chad? It’s Chad right? Jared has been worried sick about you.”

Chad turned blue eyes, dulled with life experiences Jensen wasn’t sure he ever wanted to hear about, toward him and his mouth lifted in a small grin. “That’s Jared for you...please, Jensen please tell me he isn’t alone at the house. Tell me he is here in L.A. even, anything just please tell me you didn’t leave him alone today?”

Jensen spotted an opening in traffic and veered the car over to an empty space and turning off the engine, turned to face Chad.

“Ok, Chad, you’re starting to scare me a little here. What’s going on? Why wouldn’t Jared be safe where he is? This Robert dude doesn’t know about the house right? And you wouldn’t have told him right? Unless he.....”

Chad shook his head, “No! Jesus Christ man no way would I tell him where Jared is! It was your boyfriend! Your goddamn sleaze of a fucking dick boyfriend! Please...we’re wasting time.....drive, we have got to go and get him out, please!”

Jensen took a deep breath and thought for a second before pulling out his phone with a grin, “Look I gave Jared a phone just this morning and all we have to do is call him ok? He will assure us he is fine and if it makes you feel any better I will tell him to go down to Sophia’s place alright?”

Chad nodded jerkily and Jensen dialled the number and waited for Jared to answer. Jared didn’t answer. The reassuring smile left Jensen’s face and Chad visibly tensed, “Look it’s alright, Jared text me not so long ago and said he was going for a run, I’m sure he has left the phone in the house or he is in the shower after his run or something ok? He isn’t used to having it yet and he will forget to keep it with him, doesn’t mean there is anything wrong.”

“Please....drive? We need to get down there....we need to get him out of there.....if Robert gets him.....”

Chad’s panic finally seeped through into Jensen and he peeled out onto the road again and nothing more was said until they had left the city behind and headed at a faster speed than he had ever driven toward Jared and home....

“You said my boyfriend told Robert? Are you talking about David?”

Chad turned his head wearily; exhaustion pouring from him in waves and nodded and he shut his eyes tightly for a second before opening them again. Without speaking again, Jensen pulled out the bottle of water he had kept beside him and handed it to Chad who accepted it with mumbled thanks and drank for a moment before answering.

“Yeah, your boyfriend....or ex I s’pose. He came by late last night, I wasn’t there, I was.....workin’.....he approached Robert and gave Jared’s name. Perked Robert up good and proper....he told him he knew where Jared was, he had no idea why Robert wants him so badly....he doesn’t care either. He said he just wanted Jared out of the way....and if he gets taught a lesson in the meantime then well and good.”

“Robert told you all of this?”

Chad chuckled, “Hell no...Robert isn’t stupid, he knows where my loyalties lie, and he wouldn’t tell me anything to do with his search for Jared. That’s why I stuck around....why I let him....why I worked for him after Jared left....to keep an eye....wanted to make sure it was safe....but Robert wasn’t forgetting so I started watching him closer....I saw things....things he doesn’t know I saw. I have been gathering evidence....proof....I have enough now to have him put away I think....I just needed a little more time....but....your goddamn.....well...he came round while I was workin’ and made a deal with Robert....he didn’t want anything in return, just Jared gone...so Robert thought it would be amusing to....well he gave him me....on the house he said.....”

Chad shifted on the seat and grimaced as he sipped some more water, “He thought it was hilarious too...when he found out Jared was....family....told me what he had done....took his temper out on me....and left me unconscious...that’s why it took so long for me to....I was heading out of the city....trying to make my way down to the house....warn him...get Jared out, when I spotted you in traffic. God I hope we’re not too late.”

Chad turned to Jensen then, his blue eyes wide and frightened, “He was ok right? When did you last see him? Was it this morning? Was he ok this morning? Is he ok? Jesus I wanted to contact him but I couldn’t risk it.....I saw him....few weeks back....you were with him.....came out of a restaurant....he looked good. I wanted so badly to let him know I was there, making sure.....He’s ok right?”

Jensen’s heart twisted in his chest at Chad’s palpable fear. He was in love with Jared, that much was plainly obvious. It was in every word he spoke and Jensen’s heart broke for the sacrifice this man had made for someone he loved that much. His voice was gruff when he replied,

“He is ok. I saw him this morning and he was ok....he was better than ok Chad I promise you. He was smiling and we were laughing and he is happy. But he is worried about you man, he is going to be so damn happy to see you.”

Chad slumped in his seat with relief at Jensen’s words, “Oh thank God! It might be ok, we will get there and get him out and away and it will be ok.”

Jensen glanced over at Chad as he drove and wondered how much he should tell the other man. Chances are he would freak when he saw the state Jared was in, he was still pretty banged up and bruised from his time with Mark. Although looking at Chad’s battered face he wondered just which of these two were worse off right about now. Clearing his throat he spoke again,

“Uhhh listen Chad, maybe I should warn you before we get there...Uhhh his uncle found him, Mark, his uncle found him and...”

“Goddamnit! Fuck! How the fuck did he find him? You told me he is ok! How did that scumbag find him?!”

“Ok calm down dude, He is ok....now....and Mark won’t be bothering him again I can assure you. I just wanted to warn you in case you....well he is a bit battered.....Mark was alone with him for a few days before I got to him, but he is gone now and behind bars.”

“Jesus!”Chad faced Jensen then, open interest on his face as he regarded the man driving, “How much has Jared told you? About him I mean....”

Jensen threw a glance in Chad’s direction and saw nothing but open curiosity, “Everything. He told me everything. I know it all, about his Dad and his Mom and Mark and how you mean the world to him, you and Sandy mean the world to him, and you’re his family....and...Edward. He told me about Edward.”

Chad cleared his throat and was silent for a long time after that. Jensen concentrated on getting back as fast as possible, his mind ticking over what he could do, but as luck would have it Steve and Chris were out of town today and for the next few days, sussing out a gig, and he wasn’t going to scare Sophia with a panicked phone call. It would be ok, Jared would be fine.

“He really loved him you know.”

Chad’s softly spoken words broke through his thoughts and Jensen knew who he was referring to.

“I know.”

“When Edward died, he changed. It was like it was the last straw you know? Like everything he had gone through was for nothing when Edward was just ripped away from him. He....he wouldn’t survive that again. I can’t watch him go through that again, it would kill us both.”

Jensen took his eyes from the road to glance over and met Chad’s eyes and nodded in understanding, “He won’t go through that again. I’m not going anywhere. He will be safe with me, I promise.”

Chad nodded and seemed satisfied for the moment and leaned his head back again with a sigh and closed his eyes, leaving Jensen to pray silently that he wouldn’t break that promise and he would be able to keep Jared safe.

He was only twenty minutes from home when his cell rang, Jerking Chad out of an exhausted, restless sleep. Jensen quickly answered, putting the phone to his ear, seeing his mother’s cell number flash at him.

“Mom! I’m sorry I forgot you were coming down; I’m on my way ok? I’m only about twenty minutes out....what? Ok, ok....Listen I will be there shortly, it’s ok Mom. Do me a favour ok and call Chris, tell him to come back....tell him....tell him I need him.”

Jensen hung up and swore, pressed his foot to the floor and without even glancing at his passenger, growled out in a shaky voice as he drove like a maniac to get to his destination.

“That was my Mom, she arrived a half hour ago...house is empty. She said...damnit.....she said it looked like the place was broken into...front door is off its hinges and the place is ransacked.....”

Chad sat up straight and opened his mouth to speak but only a whisper emerged.

“Jared?”

Jensen blinked back the tears that threatened, not now; he needed to be strong for a little longer, god not now, please.....

“Jared?”

“Jared is gone. Jared is gone.........”
