The next few days went well. Jared was relaxed, and Jensen was relieved. Chad came in from Austin for a long weekend and the four men spent the weekend drinking and laughing and fooling. The boys had a gig on the Saturday night and Jared and Chad sat at the bar deep in conversation while the gig went on. Jensen joined them as soon as they were done, grabbing a beer and taking a break before they started to take the equipment down.

He flopped down onto a stool beside Jared grinning mischievously; “Were we that boring guys? I don’t think you two have stopped talking all night!”

Jared smiled and looked apologetic “Sorry man, we just got caught up...”

“Hey, I’m kidding babe, I know you two have a lot to talk about, I mean someone has to listen to you talk about how awesome I am.”

Chad chuckled as Jared rolled his eyes and winked at Chad “Hey listen dude, I’m not the man who camped outside the door talking to myself to get a date”

Jensen shook his head “I’m not gonna be allowed live that one down am I?”

“Nope, I reckon there is at least a couple more months in that one.... be right back guys gotto take a leak”

Jared rose from the stool and giving Jensen a quick unexpected peck on the lips moved toward the bathrooms. Jensen grinned as his eyes followed Jareds progress and Chad gently nudged Jensens shoulder with his own;

“You did good Jensen, he has really come on big time since I saw him last, thank you”

“God don’t thank me! I wanted to be with him, he is just... god Chad he is just wonderful, so amazing, he has no idea how warm hearted and kind he is and how he lights up a room and I can’t believe all this was hiding underneath the surface all this time...”

“Thats Jared for you, he was always a pretty awesome guy, as long as I’ve known him anyway, he just...got lost along the way I guess, but he is on the road back now, he is going to be fine. He is happy you know...”

Jensen looked at Chad then,”Yeah?”

“Yep, we have had a good talk tonight and he said he feels like he has a real shot at something great with you, he is optimistic, thats down to you”

“Thank you Chad, for everything. Jared loves you, you mean the world to him and I’m so grateful for your support”

“Just hang in there Jensen ok? Give him time, Jared will amaze you, when he lets you in, all the way in you will find an amazing man I promise you. He does love you you know, he just doesn’t know it yet, but he will...give him time.”

Jensen nodded, not trusting himself to speak and took a long drink of the beer in his hand as Jared arrived back, and placed his hand on the small of Jensens back as he leaned over to grab his beer from the bar. Jensen smiled up at him and indicated over at Chris who was busy chatting up a random girl at the other end of the bar;

“Guess I better get his ass moving or else we will be here all night.”

“I will give you a hand to get everything out Jen”

“No, no thats ok, you stay and keep Chad company man, he has been crying how much he misses you dude and he is heading back in a day or so, stay” and nodding at Chad with a smile he headed over and dragged a grumbling Chris away to clean up.

Chad headed back to filming a couple of days later, leaving the keys to his apartment with Jared and assuring him that having him stay there was a load off his mind cause it spared him having someone call in to keep an eye on the place. He knew that as good as things were going, Jared needed space too from time to time, to sort things out in his head and process what was happening.

The next couple of weeks things went smoothly enough, Jensen knew when to back off and give Jared the space he needed. Sometimes Jared got quiet, disappeared into his own head for a while, and at those times Jensen knew Jared was catching up, processing all that had happened in the days prior and it was as if after taking the time to sit and think he would come bouncing back, a little more open than before a little more trust in his eyes.

While Jared spent most of his time at Jensens place, he did however go back to Chads apartment every so often, Jensen knew not to bug him there. He knew when Jared was there he was either writing or deep in thought. Jared was still very vulnerable and at times had trouble digesting the fact that Jensen was there and he had him to fall on, and he needed that time alone to remind himself it was ok, he was ok and his inner strength built a little more each time. He spoke to Jensen more, started filling him in on his time away, the experiences he had, the men he had met and the women.  Jensen would feel a streak of such jealousy that it was impossible to hide and Jared would remind him softly that Jensen was the one he hadn’t run from, the one he couldn’t run from and then Jared would make love to him so fiercely and Jensen would feel with Jareds hands and touch what he couldn’t say with words.

Jared took to running again, a routine he had neglected since returning to Dallas, and he would run most mornings, and was normally back and showered before Jensen even woke. When he was at Chads and he had written late into the night the run was later in the morning but he rarely neglected that run, he had come to cherish those few miles, the way he could slot thoughts and ideas more clearly as he ran the streets near the apartment.

It was on a cool crisp Wednesday morning that Jared left Chads apartment, he had stayed there the night before, writing into the early morning hours, and he felt good about the work he was getting done. This book was therapy of sorts like a journal of the journey he had made through his emotions since he had returned home, he was telling the story and in getting it all down and talking about bitterness and revenge and redemption and hope and.....love maybe.... he felt good.

As he jogged through the streets his thoughts ran to Jensen and he felt a sudden urge to see the man, to touch him to just be near him and he changed direction, knowing that at that time of morning he would be in the usual cafe, hiding from Chris, drinking coffee and reading the paper. He smiled to himself feeling better than he had in a long long time and he jogged a little faster anticipating the look of surprise on Jensens face when he showed up unexpectedly, god how he loved that man. He stopped dead where he was, shock at the feeling coursing through him rooting him to the spot for a minute, he loved him. He loved him! Oh my god he was in love! His face broke out into a smile of such pure joy that a couple of passersby had to smile in return as they watched the jogger standing in the middle of the sidewalk smiling a wondrous smile.

He broke into a jog again, he had to tell him, he had to tell him! Jensen was going to be so happy, he ran faster, sweat running down his face and chest dampening the t shirt he wore. He rounded the corner to the street where the cafe was situated and stopped outside the window of the cafe and there he was, Jensen. He couldn’t help the smile that broke out on his face as he watched Jensen sitting at the table what looked to be an empty coffee mug on the table in front of him alongside another one. He tapped quickly at the window and Jensen looked up his face breaking into a look of surprise quickly followed by one of trepidation, but Jared was too happy to spot it and he entered the cafe reaching Jensens table in an instant leaning down to give the older man a quick kiss.

“Jensen there is something I’ve got to tell you!”

“Jared I....”

“Well what do we have here Jenny?”

The voice from behind Jared froze him in his tracks, it wasn’t a voice he would ever forget the sound of and even before he turned to face the source, the stricken look on Jensens face told him that he wasn’t wrong. He turned slowly and there he stood, Tom Welling, he had two mugs of coffee in his hands and he sidestepped Jared and placed one in front of a now standing Jensen. Jared backed away, shock causing him to stumble, knocking over an empty chair, his face white as he desperately tried to breathe.

“Jared...” Jensen desperately reached for Jared but he pulled away never taking his eyes off of the two men.

“Oh so this is the Jared you’ve been telling me about huh?” Tom looked Jared up and down before turning to Jensen “Can’t say I remember the kid, but wow wee Jenny nice piece of ass you’ve picked yourself this time and thats coming from a straight man!”

He turned back to face Jared again and was met with a fist smashing his nose sending him sprawling to the floor taking a nearby table with him. “What the fuck!”

Jared stood over the bleeding man who was clutching his nose trying to stem the flow of blood. “You son of a bitch, you stay the hell away from me!” he growled at the stunned man on the floor.

He turned to Jensen rubbing the fist he had smashed into Toms face, his own face now devoid of all emotion and Jensen reached for him again.

Jared took a step back, his eyes rapidly filling and his face white “Jared, please...this isn’t how it looks, please...I love you baby, please lets go talk huh?”

“Know why I came here Jensen? Wanna know why I came here? I was out jogging and it hit me and I had to come tell you straight away.... I was coming to tell you I loved you.... isn’t that funny Jensen?”

A sob tore from Jensens throat and he desperately reached out to try and touch Jared, it looked bad but it wasn’t how Jared thought, he had to get him to see;

“Jared...please...let me explain please?”

“It’s like history repeating itself Jensen isn’t it?” Jared laughed bitterly, the tears threatening now and it was only adrenaline that carried him to the door, “Let me save you any more embarrassment Jensen, I won’t cling to you this time, I won’t let you do this to me again!”

He was gone out the door before Jensen could move and as he made to follow his arm was pulled and he was held in place by Tom who was still clutching his nose with one hand;

“You ask me Jenny boy, the guys a lunatic, stay away from him man, stick with me, he isn’t worth it”

Next thing Tom knew he was on the floor again another fist smashing his face again bursting his lip and Jensen stood, chest heaving “I told you when you called me Tom I didn’t want anything to do with you, and I told you when you came in here after me that I didn’t want to talk to you...now I’m going to go after the best thing thats ever happened to me and try and fix this, if you ever come within breathing distance of me or Jared again, so help me god I will disfigure you for life you sad son of a bitch!”
