Three days later Jensen and Chris were sitting in Chris’ truck outside Jareds parents house. It had taken that long for Jensen to pull himself together enough to make the journey to talk to Jared, two days of long brooding silences, fits of impotent rage at a man who wasn’t worth the dirt beneath his feet he’d decided but he wanted to hurt oh so badly, two days of alternating between feeling sorry for himself and feeling sorry for Jared, two days of tears for what Jared had gone through, of anger at himself for falling right into Marks trap with his stupid words spoken in anger and sometimes even anger at Jared for not coming to him, for not taking that chance.

But after long talks with Chris, Jensen finally came to terms with what happened, finally understood Jareds only real mistake was trust, trusting the fact that his husband had meant what he had said, his mistake had been loyalty, showing loyalty to a man he was married to, his mistake had been his big heart and falling in love with someone he shouldn’t have, he had fallen in love with Jensen and Mark had used all these beautiful traits of Jareds to try and destroy him.

Jensen could only imagine the damage that had done...sometimes, he knew, the worst of the damage was on the inside, bruises would heal, and Mark had known that and had systematically wrecked Jared from the inside. What he found so hard to accept was the fact that he himself had contributed with his horrible words, and no amount of reassurances from Chris would tell him otherwise. He was no better than Mark he felt, when Jared had looked at him so imploringly, just for understanding, he had done exactly what his husband had done later and thrown it right back in Jareds face...

But after two days of talking, Jensen had arrived at one conclusion, no matter how brief his time with Jared had been, no matter how fast he and Jared had fallen for each other, Jared had had a huge impact on him and he still loved him. He knew he needed to talk to Jared, try and get him to see that Jared deserved his love, that none of this had been Jareds fault, that they both deserved a decent shot, just one decent shot and he knew they could do it. He knew they could make this work, but from talking with Chris he realised that Jared was more damaged than he let on or even realised. But Jensen had always had a habit of setting his mind to something and not giving up until he succeeded, and his practical nature that had seen him through the break up with Steve but had been so absent with Jareds, reared its head and helped him straighten it all out in his head. Yes, he loved Jared and Jared was worth fighting for, he would show Jared that he was worth it.

Which brought him to the Padalecki house on that third day. He knew what he wanted, he wanted Jared, and he knew he needed to get the hurdle of the very protective family over also, Chris had assured him it was the right move to make, and he was sure he was right. But he also knew how he would be thinking if he was Jareds Mom or Dad and had watched Jared pull himself out of hell the last four months, and he sure as hell wouldn’t want some other guy walking in and risking everything again. He steeled his shoulders and looked over at Chris who was watching him intently.

‘’Alright lets go get this done Chris’’

Chris regarded his friend with a wave of admiration.

‘’Jen, I just wanted you to know, you are the strongest person I have ever met, the way you have handled everything is just amazing...’’

Jensen actually blushed at his words and made to brush them aside, but Chris wouldn’t let him.

‘’I mean it Jensen. Jared hasn’t been able to forgive himself for what he did and he is probably gonna fight you on this, you guys have an uphill battle, but if anyone can survive this it’s you. I trust you Jen.’’

Jensen knew what this was, this was Chris’ way of giving Jensen his blessing as far as Jared was concerned, Chris was the brother that Jared had never had and was now in full protective mode as far as the other man was concerned, and he took it as it was intended.

‘’Thanks Chris, it will be ok, let’s do this before I chicken out huh?’’

Chris grinned and opened the door of the truck.

‘’Yup, let’s go meet them. And don’t worry about his Mom and Dad... its Megan I would worry about’’ He chuckled at the look on Jensens face at his words.

‘’Gee thanks Chris! ‘’ He muttered as they stepped onto the porch and Chris rapped on the door. He normally walked straight in the back door when he called, but, seeing as this was Jensens first time and being the situation it was, he figured this was the best way to do it.

The door opened and Jensen resisted to urge to completely hide behind Chris slightly smaller frame and instead stood off to the side as a kind looking woman exclaimed at the sight of Chris at the door.

‘’Chris! What are you doing back here so soon? ‘’ She pulled him into a hug and continued ’’And since when do you knock on the front door?’’ It was then she glanced to his side and spotted Jensen, pulling slowly away from Chris she regarded Jensen for a moment, giving a quick glance in Chris’ direction, making Jensen feel even more nervous, until she smiled softly and said,

‘’You’re Jensen ‘’ and held out a hand to shake. Jensen’s eyes widened at her recognising him without ever having seen him before and she smiled once more as she took his hand in hers and led them both inside.

‘’Jensen, The way Jared spoke about you for so long I would know you anywhere, come on in and have some coffee and something to eat’’

She closed the door behind them and led them into the large kitchen and sat them down at the table, making them fresh coffee and some sandwiches.

‘’So Chris, you went against Jareds request.’’ It wasn’t a question and Chris blushed and opened his mouth to try and explain but she covered his hand with hers and continued ‘’I’m so glad you did honey, Jared needs you both, and I’m presuming you are here to talk to him? You want to work something out? ‘’ She looked back to Jensen with a mothers protective eye and Jensen quickly assured her, with a nod of his head and a ‘’Yes Ma’am’’

She smiled at both men and sighed ‘’It’s going to be ok now’’ she said softly as she regarded them both ‘’you are both here and it’s going to be ok’’

Jared was tired, he had stayed late at the school, one of the teens he was working with had a problem at home and desperately needed a shoulder and Jared had stayed with him, talking him down from his panicked state and eventually talking him into returning to talk to his worried Mom.

He parked his bike round the back of the small house he had rented and rolling his shoulders as he removed his helmet he let himself into the house, making for the kitchen dropping his keys on the counter as he passed and went to the coffee machine to brew some fresh coffee. A few short minutes later he was just taking a sip of some freshly brewed coffee when there was a knock to the front door.

Stepping around some boxes in the hallway he made his way to the door and swinging it open he was surprised to see Chris standing there, looking nervous.

‘’Chris? Hey man!! What brings you back so fast? Thought you weren’t coming back this way for a few weeks?’’

Jared stepped back to let Chris inside ‘’ Come on in and let me show you round dude!’’

Turning, he made his way back down the hallway assuming Chris was behind him, but froze on the spot at the sound of a voice he never imagined he would hear, especially not here.

‘’Jared’’

Turning to face the door again, he saw Chris’ nervous look before his eyes landed on the source of the voice, and his world narrowed down to the man who now stood in front of Chris at the door.

‘’Jensen’’
