Summary:Jared Padalecki is a good man,trapped in a dead marriage,what happens when he falls in love with someone else?What will he do when forced to choose between the husband he feels he owes and the man who owns his soul?

Jared sat back in the couch, in a dark corner of the bar, with Chris and played with the glass of mineral water in front of him. After an enthusiastic greeting, of hugs and back clapping, they had retreated to the corner to catch up. It was still early enough in the night and it was quiet enough in the bar for Jensen to be able to pop over now and then to join in the chat, but generally he left them alone, seeming to understand it was just two friends catching up.
Jared was kinda grateful that he was leaving them be for the moment, he was still in shock at the jolt of awareness their first touch had generated. He had honestly never felt something so strongly before, and he needed time to process it. Chris got up to use the bathroom and Jared took advantage of the few minutes alone in the darkened corner to study Jensen.
He was a truly beautiful man, about 6’1’’ Jared would guess, he was about three inches shorter than himself, with sandy blonde short hair that was half spiked at the top, the most beautiful expressive green eyes and a mouth just made for sin as far as he was concerned. Jared was amazed that the man was still single, but from the gentle probing of Chris he gathered he was not long out of a long term relationship, and Jared was not going to examine too closely his satisfaction and relief to hear the man was gay. He was here to relax for the night with his friend, and certainly not to get into anything or get attracted to anyone!
He was saved any further thought by Chris returning from the bathroom, he sat down and took a drink from his beer, and studied Jared for a minute.
‘’What’s up Jay?’’ He asked finally ‘’It’s not like you to not have a beer at least, is everything ok?’’
Jared contemplated Chris for a moment, weighing his options and finally decided that the truth was the best option with Chris, he was his friend, and he owed him the truth always...
‘’I just don’t drink much anymore Chris, It’s just... Mark.... he is drinking Chris... a lot... and I just don’t want to go down that road,I can see what its doing, I need a clear head you know?’’
Next to him, Chris tensed and sat up, sitting closer to Jared as they talked ‘’ How bad is it Jay?’’
Jared had to smile at the use of the name ‘Jay’ , Mark would not like it if he heard him being called that, he always insisted Jared be called by his full name, and hated any shortening of it what so ever.
‘’Nah, it’s not that bad Chris, really’’ he continued when Chris made a move to disagree ‘’ He is just under a lot of stress right now, business is tough, and he has a lot on him with potential partners and meetings and people constantly looking to find fault’’
‘’He has just taken to drinking a lot when he is home, he doesn’t get aggressive or anything, and I’m normally able to get him to bed and asleep fairly easily, so I just prefer nowadays not to drink, I just got into the habit of keeping a clear head I guess, in case he needs me’’
Chris regarded his friend silently for a few moments, until Jared actually wanted to squirm under his eyes.
‘’Seriously dude, I thought you had gotten over this protective streak of yours years ago’’ he said trying to lighten the mood.
‘’You happy Jay?’’ Chris asked suddenly
Jared looked to his friend and suddenly he felt such a rush of affection, that Chris still worried for him all these years on.
‘’Chris, I have a good man, a good home, I have everything I could have ever wanted, why wouldn’t I be happy?’’
‘’He back down on letting you take up a teaching position yet?’’
Jared sighed inwardly, he knew Chris loved him like a brother, and he knew Chris had stood by him when he had married Mark four years ago, but he wasn’t stupid and he knew deep down that Chris was wary of Mark. But he had always been grateful that Chris had respected him enough not to push his opinion on Jared, settling instead on being a constant steady, if wandering presence in Jareds life.
‘’Nah, but thats ok I do a lot of volunteer work with kids in the shelters and I’m happy with that for the time being, it’s all good man’’ Jared smiled at Chris, and Chris saw the smile for what it was, it was strained and he let the matter drop. For now
‘’Good, ok then... lets have some fun tonight eh? I gotto go and sing in a few but you could Join Jensen and keep him company at the bar, looks like he is gonna be busy’’
Jared glanced around and was surprised at how quickly the bar had filled up, in the few minutes they had been chatting, ‘’ wow for a small town, there sure is a big crowd ‘’ he laughed
‘’Hey I been telling you for years Jay, I draw a crowd, I’m that good, the women can’t stay away!’’
Jared watched Jensen run around inside the bar for a few more minutes, his black t shirt was stuck to his body now, as heat and all the running around started to make him sweat a little. God he looked good, the T Shirt stuck to his body in all the right places and Jared was transfixed.
Chris chuckled at the look on Jareds face as he watched Jensen behind the bar
‘’you ok there Jay?’’
‘’Uh... yeah, yeah, I was just wondering, maybe he needs some help... he is looking kinda busy there, and its been a while since I got behind a bar, but I think I would love it, I might offer to help’’ Jared replied glancing over at Chris and blushing slightly at the raised eyebrow that greeted him.
‘’Chris, get any ideas... I’m happy where I am, don’t go there, or I swear I will kick you’re ass’’
Chris held up his hands in mock surrender , laughing ‘’Jay man, I have no ideas, I swear, and you know as well as I do that you wouldn’t kick my ass, or anyone’s for that matter, you’re too good a man’’
‘’Is that your way of calling me a pussy?’’
Jared laughed good naturedly as they both stood, Chris to go sing and Jared to make his way over to the bar. They touched knuckles and hugged briefly before Jared sent him off with a ‘’Go knock ‘em dead’’

Jensen watched Chris and Jared’s exchange and Chris head for the stage, and then turned his head quickly away as Jared made his way toward the bar.
‘’Hey there, you look like you could use a little help here’’ Jared spoke as he found a stool at the bar and sat down and began shrugging off his leather jacket...
Jensen turned from the customer he had been serving and promptly almost swallowed his tongue, Jesus Christ the man was built! The jacket had hidden a white T Shirt underneath, which was spread over muscled arms and a chest he just longed to run his hands over.
He grabbed a cloth and started wiping the counter frantically in an attempt to keep his hands from reaching across the bar... ‘’Yeah it is kinda busy in here, and Mike couldn’t make it in tonight, so I’m down a pair of hands ... excuse me ‘’ and he turned to serve yet another customer... the bar was really getting busy.
‘’Hey you want a hand?’’ Jared had to raise his voice to be heard down the bar through the noise that was building.
‘’No, no, god no, you came to relax and enjoy the music, not run around the bar getting hot and sweaty’’
Jared smiled and leaned over the bar.
‘’ It’s ok, I worked plenty bars through college, I haven’t done it in a while, but I would love to give you a hand and it would be fun for me believe me’’
Jensen regarded Jared for a moment and decided the man genuinely wanted to help.
‘’Ok then, come on in and get stuck in man’’
Before he could blink Jared was behind the bar grinning like a mad man and throwing his Jacket behind the bar.
‘’Ok then! Lets have some fun here folk!’’ He declared loudly and proceeded to serve two young women who giggled and batted their eyes as Jared chattered non-stop as he served them.
Jensen shook his head his head and grinned and soon enough they had a good routine going behind the bar with Jensen working one corner and Jared the other, as Chris worked the crowd with his music and banter.
The night seemed to fly by and even though they were kept going behind the bar, they found time to joke and laugh, and Jared seemed to genuinely enjoy it, laughing and chatting with the customers. He was relaxed and Jensen’s regulars took to him straight away and before the night was down there were calls of ‘’Jay’’ echoing around the bar as people called for drinks.
Jensen studied Jared every chance he got while he worked and he had to admit he liked what he saw. Not only was this man gorgeous, but he was funny and likeable, with an easy charm about him that immediately set people at ease. He worked the crowd easily, and he often saw Jared duck his head with what looked like embarrassment at a compliment and scratch the back of his head with a shy smile, or throw his head back and laugh loudly clapping his hands at something ol’ joe whispered conspiringly in his ear at one stage, and knowing Joe it certainly wasn’t anything Jensen was going to want to hear, not without a few beers in him at least!
All too soon the night was winding down; Chris had finished his set, and was settled on a stool at the bar, chatting to a few customers and flirting shamelessly with the women and generally enjoying the attention and company. Jared and Jensen just shared a look that spoke ‘Typical Chris’ and grinned and left him to it and set about cleaning up after the night.
‘’Hey, you know you don’t have to stay and help, you’ve done enough, I can manage from here, I got it’’
‘’Are you nuts? I had a great time, it’s been too long since I got the chance to get behind a bar and I’ve missed it! I wanna stay and help you finish up, it’s a pleasure believe me’’
‘’You sure?’’ Jensen asked with a raised eyebrow, finding it difficult to believe that anyone would willingly hang around to clean up when they had the chance to escape.
‘’Yeah man, ‘sides I might even get a free beer huh?’’
‘’ You want a beer? Thought you were drinking water all night?’’
Jared laughed softly ‘’Yeah, but it’s the end of the night now, I hardly think one beer is gonna cause massive damage huh?’’
‘’Sure man you got it, lets get this done then and we can kick back and have a few beers’’
Two hours later saw the bar cleaned and locked up, and the three men seated at a table feet thrown up and two beers each in front of them as they chatted nonsense and just relaxed. ‘’So Chris, where to next? ‘’ Jared asked as he took a sip from his first beer.
‘’Actually Jay I was thinking of hanging round here for a while’’ Chris answered and grinned at the look of surprise on Jareds face.
‘’Yeah? Wow... what’s brought that on? Thought you were never gonna get rid of that wander lust!’’
‘’Yeah well Jensen here has a good bar going, and he can always use the help and I get to play some music at night, I can afford to kick back and relax for a while I think, and I like it here’’
‘’Thats awesome Chris’’ Jared exclaimed with genuine pleasure on his face ‘’ Means I might get to see more of ya, next time Mark goes away we can do this again... that is if Jensen isn’t sick of me by morning I mean’’
Jensen smiled at the look of embarrassment that crossed Jareds face as he thought he overstepped the mark with his plans ‘’Nah thats cool man, you can earn your keep next time too behind the bar, the customers certainly took to you tonight.’’
‘’Yeah Jay here was always a crowd favourite behind the bar when he was in college too’’ Chris replied as Jared ducked his head and blushed slightly scratching at the back of his neck, Jensen just wanted badly to run his hands over the back of the younger mans neck when he did that.
Chris turned to Jensen ‘’ Hey Jen, why don’t we go play a few tunes on the guitars man? Show Jay here how good we sound?’’
Jensen looked unsure for a moment
‘’I dunno Chris, We might scare him off’’
Chris chuckled ‘’ Nah, Jay here heard me pluck tunes on the guitar more times than even he cares to remember over the years, ‘aint that right Jay?’’
Jared, who had been leaning back on his hair looking utterly relaxed, nodded ‘’I would love to hear some tunes guys, I cant hold a tune, but I have fun trying ‘’ he chuckled.
‘’Alright then!’’ Jensen declared ‘’Lets head upstairs!’’
